After watching this country slowly sink, and even go backwards the last 8 years, it is time to stand up and fight for something very important. I am talking about intelligence, no, not the CIA kind (although that's taken a big hit also). I'm talking about basic intelligence ,learning, knowledge, research, scientific, and otherwise. Building our future and staying ahead in this world has always relied on us investing heavily in educating our children and our ability, though research, to come up with cutting edge technologies based on scientific discoveries, and putting them to use in our economy. Most of this requires an open mind , and an ability and desire to learn as much as we can about everything around us. Knowledge is power, and knowledge is our future. A series of statements recently by both McCain, and Palin , and the crowds reaction to them, is very disturbing. This diary is about the fight against ignorance, and stupidity.It is not cool to be stupid, or golly geeish, or ignorant and proud of it. This is a dangerous attitude that McCain and Palin are promoting in their irresponsible quest for more votes.

Here is an account of Palin's latest attack on science, and therefore, an attack on all knowledge and learning. This is so embarrassing it's almost beyond belief. She claims to have gone to college, and yet cannot get the facts straight about something most of us learned in the 6th grade? I am highly suspect of her motives in this case. I believe Sarah Palin is not that stupid. No, its too hard to swallow that. I think she is playing dumb to the crowd, thinking this plain jane kind of ignorance will win more votes, and it seemed to have the effect she wanted as the crowd gave a good cheer. This is disturbing on many different levels , but lets keep it in the realm the Republicans always use.... patriotism. Whom are the real patriots here? Since she loves asking that question so much, I'd have to say, "indeed Ms Palin, just who are you, and do you really love this country?" Because statements like that, promoting ignorance, and making stupidity seem cool, are exactly what is going to bring this country down fast. The world will not stop and wait for us to catch up, and once a generation goes by and we have failed our children, by teaching them things that will be useless in the real world, then, we can come back to you Ms Palin, and thank you for promoting our downfall. Once we lose that edge, our economy because more and more irrelevant in today's very competitive world, and, if we insist on going back to the middle ages, where we all hide in our churches and wait for endtimes, that's exactly what will happned, and this one great nation will become irrelevant. Of course, it won't get that far, but it is something to think about when dealing with this new attitide of stupid being cool.Children watch these speeches also, and seeing our leaders represent basic and important scientific reasearch as some kind of joke is unacceptable.I'm very proud of this country despite its checkered past, it still is a nation where many great things have happened. The last thing i appreciate is seeing some complete ignoramus giving a speech about something she knows nothing about obviously, and with the crowd cheering her on, makes us all look like fools. What she is doing though is worse. She is pretending to be stupid so she can "relate" to the "real" Americans out there, and win as many votes as possible. Guess what honey (and i say honey on purpose)maybe youve been stuck in the national enquirer for the last 30 years, I don;t know, and I dont really care. You little stint in the sun is about over, and hopefully you'll learn that there are a lot of people in this country who are embarrassed by your ignorance of so many simple topics, and maybe youve won over half of 1 percent of the yahoo's out there that love it, without even knowing why, they just love it. People who've never learned to think before they speak, and most of their knowledge comes from joe next door, cause he watches the tv news everynight. Even people in "your" America Sarah Palin, are smarter than that.
